Trouble in traffic

This one was complicated, so I need to explain: I was stuck in traffic, when I noticed my electric window opening, of its own accord. The next thing I knew, a thief had dived through my open window and was stealing stuff from my car. Kindof like a smash ‘n grab but without the smashing.
This puzzled me, until I noticed the next time I was stuck in traffic that some thieves were walking around the stationary cars with these universal remote things, opening car windows. (Like, I’m sure if I went around a random neighbourhood with my garage remote, I’d be able to open some random garages, won’t I?)
